Broken Torsion Spring Replacement — Mesa

A late-Friday emergency call: a snapped torsion spring had trapped the car in a Mesa garage, and high-cycle springs had it lifting again within two hours.

Completed July 2026 · Mesa

What we found

This was an emergency call late on a Friday evening: the homeowner's vehicle was trapped in the garage and the door wouldn't budge. We were on site within the hour. The cause was plain as soon as we looked up — the torsion spring above the door had snapped, and you can see the gap in the coils in the before photo. A torsion spring carries most of the door's weight; when it breaks, the opener can't lift the door, and the door shouldn't be forced by hand.

What we did

We replaced the torsion springs with high-cycle, oil-tempered springs. A standard spring is rated for a set number of open-and-close cycles; high-cycle springs are built to last roughly twice as long, which is worth having on a door that gets used every day. With the new springs on, we balanced the door so it lifts evenly and doesn't strain the opener.

How it turned out

From the phone call to the car backing out of the garage was under two hours. Now that's fast service. A snapped spring is one of the most common ways a door strands a car, and it's the kind of call we take around the clock — if it happens to you, call (480) 520-9000 any time.
