Foothill sun, grit off the dirt roads, and monsoon wind

Queen Valley is open desert, and the sun is hard on a garage door. South- and west-facing doors take hours of direct UV, which dries out the rubber weather seal along the bottom until it splits, and a hot garage is hard on the springs. Many of the side roads are unpaved, and the rock and grit they throw off works into the rollers and tracks until a door that ran quietly in spring starts to grind. Monsoon gusts funnel through the canyons and push on panels and hardware, especially on wide doors. When we come out for one broken part, we check the rest of the door too.

RV garages, seasonal homes, and the road in

An RV bay is a different job from a standard two-car garage. The door is taller, often wider, and a lot heavier, so the springs have to be sized for that weight, and the opener has to be built for the load. Before we quote, we measure the opening and the headroom above it, because a taller door needs room for the tracks and the opener rail, and we check that the header is solid enough to hold them.

Many Queen Valley homes sit closed up through the summer, and a door that sat all summer is worth a look before it goes back into daily use. We check spring balance, cables, rollers, and the seal along the bottom, and fix what the heat did while nobody was home.

The way in is Queen Valley Road, the paved road off US 60 a few miles east of Florence Junction, and the side roads past it are dirt. We know the way, and we make the trip.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take you to get to Queen Valley from Mesa?

Roughly an hour. From our East Mesa shop we come out US 60 past Gold Canyon and a few miles in on Queen Valley Road, so plan on two to three hours for a technician to arrive. Same-day service is usually available, and the 24/7 emergency line covers nights and weekends.

Can you fix the springs and opener on an RV or oversized garage door?

Yes. An RV door is taller and heavier than a standard one, so the springs have to be sized for its weight and the opener has to be built for the load. We measure the door and the headroom above it before we quote, and we check that the header will hold the track and rail. If the door is too worn to run safely on a motor, we'll tell you and quote a new door and opener together.

My house sat closed all summer. What should I check on my garage door when I get back?

Before you run the opener, disconnect it and lift the door by hand. A balanced door lifts easily and stays about halfway up on its own. If it feels heavy, drops, or won't stay put, a spring is likely worn, so stop there and call us. Also look at the rubber seal along the bottom for cracks, the hinges and brackets for rust, and the cables for fraying. We can do a full check and tune-up when you arrive for the season.
