Single to Dual Spring Conversion in Gilbert
A Gilbert double-wide door with one snapped torsion spring, converted from a single-spring setup to a dual-spring system for better balance and smoother operation.
Completed September 2026 · Gilbert
What we found
This Gilbert homeowner called us about a broken spring. When we looked up above the door, we found the torsion spring had snapped, and you can see the gap in the coils in the before photo. It was also the only spring on a double-wide door, and that's a lot of weight for one spring to carry on its own.
What we did
We could have put one new spring back where the old one was, but we always recommend converting a single-spring door to a dual-spring system, and that's what we did here. We installed two new torsion springs on the shaft, one on each side of the center bearing plate. With two springs sharing the load, each one works less, which can reduce wear and help the springs last more cycles. Two springs also give the door better balance, smoother operation, and some redundancy that a single spring can't offer.
How it turned out
The door now runs on two new springs instead of one. Day to day, the homeowner gets smoother opening and closing, and on a door this wide, each spring does less of the work every time the door moves. One spring is also no longer the only thing holding up the door's weight. If a spring has broken on your door, and especially if it's a double-wide door with only one spring, call (480) 520-9000 and we'll talk you through the switch to two.
